- What are the criteria for Test Assessment?
It is very vital we get few things clarified because of the reactions of the candidates as a result of the withdrawal of the list of candidates sent to tertiary institutions for admission assessment by JAMB.
Hence,to ensure that candidates are properly guided,we point out some tips and insights about this recent development;
- The Tertiary institution senate now have autonomy to select candidates for admission among the candidates who must pass through JAMB for approval and issuance of admission letters.
- All candidates have to wait patiently for the school of their choice to announce its screening
- exercise and ensure they participate accordingly.Therefore,it no longer matters if you were posted to an institution or not.
- For those institutions that have already had their admission screening exercise conducted in line with JAMB stipulations, such screening still remains valid. Candidates involved in such screening should wait for the release of the admission list(s) by their respective institutions.
- The withdrawal of the JAMB Consideration List does not imply that post-UTME is now valid. Tertiary institutions must adhere to the screening modalities as earlier announced by JAMB as the ban on Post UTME still holds.
- It should also be made known to the candidates that the offer of provisional admission by their schools of choice is determined by the validation by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board

PROPOSED JAMB MODEL FOR SCREENING OF
RECOMMENDED CANDIDATES
- Only candidates recommended for admission should be screened.recommended for admissions.
- The screening should not involve any form of written exam.
- Thorough Verification of Course Requirements (O’ levels or A’levels).
- Verification of valid JAMB results which includes comfirmation of ; i. Online Result Slip, ii. Result Printout, iii. Photo Album, v. Checklist, vi. Biometrics,
- Institutions are free to source from other Course(s) to suplement for SHORTFALL in any of the criteria.
If the proposed model for admission as proposed by JAMB is duely followed for 2017/2018 admission process, the admission process will run be run thus;
JAMB must offer a candidate an admission before such candidates qualifies for screening in the institution he or she has been provisionally admitted. This means that only candidates who their name appear in the list sent to the institutions by JAMB are qualified to take part in the screening exercise in that particular institution.
Institutions admission screening calculations will now be based on point system. The first on the point system is the O’level grading. Candidates who made their O-level result through one sitting will stand a better chance of being given admission than candidates who made it through two sittings. One 0’level result = 10marks/
points while two O’level results = 3 marks/points.
Moreso, each grade will now have its equivalent points/
marks in this way; A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks
which implies that having better grades in your O’level result offers you a better chance of securing admission.
The NEXT to be considered on the point system is your UTME Score.
Candidates will be awarded marks/points based on their UTME Sore,
score 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33points
score 251-300=34-43points
score, 300-400=44-60 points.
Therefore,the higher your score, the higher your chances of securing admission.
The generally known school cut-off-marks will now be referred to as institutions cut-off points which will be gotten after the above calculations.
Henceforth, JAMB provisional admission is now only but a means to an end and not an end itself,thus,doesnt guarantee admition into the high institution. This is to say that JAMB may give a candidate a provisional admission and such candidate will still be denied admission by the sam institution because he or she is short of cut- off point for his/hre prospective course in that particular institution.
For instance you may be given provisional admission to study Mechanical/Production Engineering in NAU by JAMB having obtained a UTME score of 260. If Engineering cut-off point in that particular institution is 95 points and you did not make up to that after the assessment calculation, you will most likely be denied admission.
4.Factors such catchment area and ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States) in determining the number of candidates admitted, will still be duely considered in the admission process.
Admission by merit is 45%, catchment area 35% and ELDS 20%.
The issue of Science to arts ratio will still be in place. For universities Science to arts ratio will be 60:40 ,
Polytechnics 70:30. However, for specialized institutions (Technology, Science Agriculture etc) it will be 100%
related to their specialty. Also 90% of admission will be allorted to UTME candidates while 10% will be for Candidate going through the Direct Entry.
